Three Trends Affecting The Recruitment Industry Right Now

Business Blog

As the way we do business, social activities and day-to-day life changes, the recruitment industry has seen a number of shifts in the industry. With these trends developing, the recruitment industry has had to adapt their business models and strategies. Below are the top three trends affecting the recruitment industry right now.

Social Media

Across the board in all industries and consumer life, social media has become an almost vital component to everyday life and the marketing of many companies — big and small alike. While resumes and interviews are still the norm across the world for job applications, employers are now checking up on their potential employees' social media and online presence. Naturally, when working at a company, companies desire employees to reflect their corporate culture on employee social media and expect employees to at the very least act according to their companies' guidelines and regulations. Employers can get a glimpse of potential prospects life outside of work, and it makes a great first impression if your social media profile is well thought-out, censored and generally conducted in a professional manner.

Going Mobile

Along with the widespread use of social media, people are using smartphone devices more than ever and are using them for almost every task imaginable in day-to-day life. People use them to browse the internet, manage their social media, communicate with their friends and family and even conduct business. Recruitment is certainly no exception, with more and more people turning to mobile devices when searching and applying for potential jobs. As such, recruitment companies are now accommodating a more streamlined and easier approach when applying for jobs using a smartphone device. For companies, this shift towards mobile devices could see many shifts their business and marketing strategies to smartphones as opposed to computers and desktops, giving potential early adopters a competitive advantage in the future.

Soft Skills

Increasingly, soft skills are becoming more and more valued by an employer. Soft skills include things such as teamwork, charisma, communication and leadership skills. While it is still important to have skills pertaining to the specific job description, being adept in soft skills is certainly going to make a great impression in the interview. Furthermore, many human resources departments in companies now have a process for assessing soft skills during a job interview, so it is becoming increasingly important to have at least a good grasp of social skills.

Remote Workforces

A growing trend amongst new generations is the desire to have more free time and the desire to work at home or remotely. This means that now job searches are changing, and potential employees are looking more towards jobs with flexibility over the jobs with the highest pay. In turn for companies, this change allows smaller companies to experience growth without accommodating physical spaces or facilities for remote employees. Thus, as the nature of work shifts more towards remote employment, so too will recruitment companies adapt their strategies.
